Lost in the Laundromat

The lonely ant walked along the floor
of the laundromat where I was sitting,
me, patiently waiting as my clothes
finished their weekly bath.

I watched as it moved along,
wandering back and forth,
lost in a strange world,
with no clothes of its own to wash,

maybe looking for a door
to return to a world it knew,
but instead, headed in a different direction,
exploring a new part of the universe,

one I was quite familiar with.
I wished it a fond farewell
as it disappeared from sight, while I
headed off to other destinations of my own.
