Theremin

Jarrod Fouts

A very nice amplifier system
used for years by a post-rock band
who thought the same note for 20 minutes
through different distortion pedals
sounded real deep and cool

That once stood at shows, in front of the projector screen
where black and white images of birds
and buildings collapsing
were spliced together to make a statement

Is now hooked up to a theremin
aimed at the house next door
who thought last night’s band practice was too loud
and called the cops
filing a complaint with the city

‘Good morning, Philistines,’
followed by conductor style waving of hands
shaking wildly as cheesy sci-fi sounds are amplified
to very unsafe levels
as if the aliens were touching down
right there in the backyard.
