he was so little when we got him
well, we closed the bedroom to go to bed
wanting to join us
so Id get him out of the room
at three thirty in the morning,
Zach came back to see me before five
hed sit on my lap, then next to me
and let me fingers curl around him
and dad said, he wants to come in
and i said,

Mommys Not Leaving
I just got back from being out of town for two weeks
the cats missed me, especially Zach,
since weve had him since he was a little kitten
that hed try to suckle
from a mole on our arm
on our first night home
and hed run in
so we could sleep
and he would come knocking
so dad took him out of the bedroom
for an hour
so I let him in the bedroom,
and let him sit with me
then lay down on my arm
then move onto my thumb
like they were the shoes
from the Wicked Witch of the East
because he wants to check
to make sure mommys still here
mommys not going, Zach
mommys not leaving
