The Belt

Mike Berger, Ph.D.

Willie bears a thousand
emotional scars. Oblivious to
the turmoil inside,
voices tell him what to do.

As a child, his drunken father
used a belt. The buckle tore raw flesh
but the damage was to his mind.

His only escape was within
the dark corners of his mind.
Today he sits and rocks as
specters dance.
He’s a cipher in a
human warehouse.
