Becalmed in the I of the storm,
I’m looking out at a hurricane
with a detachment bordering
on bliss. Perhaps this is insanity’s
true and peerless face;
the screaming and crying
only the bitter fruits of sanity’s rot,
braving a highway anathema
to its soul. Either way, the sanity police
have my name and number.
Dead-locked at the wheel,
I can already hear their sirens
closing in. Brakes on, gloves off;
they come to my window,
demanding I speak..
