black lipstick and rainy days

Linda M. Crate

crow song and deer skulls made up my youth, when i would run into the forest i would always hear the crows that watched over me and i would always find deer skulls; i built a circle made of fallen and broken branches hoping that i could be a disney princess and somehow the animals would be my friends—but i learned along the way that i am a morticia, a lydia, a mina in my journey; i am the one that finds beauty in places no one dares to look and in the places others define as creepy or weird—but “i myself am strange and unusual” so i guess it goes to reason i would go to these places with a different point of view because as morticia says: “normal is an illusion, what is normal to the spider is chaos to the fly”; all of this to say no one seems to understand the mythology of my bones or the language of my heart and soul—moonlight seems more a friend than the the sunlight because the moon never gives me false hope, the sun can lie about his warmth; but the moon has taught me i am beautiful in my phases no matter what society says—and so here i am empowered by black lipstick and rainy days.
