poetry readings from the feature on November 30th, 2007
Janet Kuypers was the first feature at the Mercury Cafe (1505 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago) on November 30th of 2007. The Mercury Cafe closes at 9:00 p.m., so this was an early Friday night feature (Kuypers started closer to 7:30 in the evening), with probably just over 20 minutes of reading poetry (a change of pace from her usual features, which become performance art shows). Kuypers read old material (some from high school days), as well as a brand new short poem, written for the 2008 Poetry Wall Calendar (published by Scars Publications), written with an image of two statues on display outdoors in Beijing, China.
Also, a photographer was there documenting the entire evening of poetry, and hopefully we may see photos from them in the future on this site.
Not only is Kuypers doing the first feature, but also Nina Corwin and Ixta Menchaca doingid later features that evening.
Kuypers also released a chapbook of potential poems she would read for this feature, called The Messenger.
