It was bound to happen

It was bound to happen,
sooner or later
a kind of numbness takes over
along with that slow death of ideas
and a tell tale loss for words.
It’s something like an effusive stream
freezing silent in winter
or a glowing lava flow
entombed by stolid stone.
It happens to us all; although,
by working through those fears,
I’ve come to know
this time
it’s more like spring
when shards of ice
flow down a river
and a line or two
sprouting from pooling snow
start to flower.
