Became a Circus Janet Kuypers 5/21/19 Have you ever been to the circus? Do you remember going to a carnival when you were a little kid, holding onto the hands of the obligatory supervisors (you know, if it wasn’t mummy or daddy) and sucking cotton candy spun on a stick? Think back: do you remember seeing someone walking high above on a tightrope, all without a net, or do you remember seeing a man open a lion’s mouth wide to hold his balding head inside, think back. Because, think about it; look deep inside and wonder if your life became the circus, and you’re the one stuck in the lion cage, and you’re the one hanging on the trapeze bar, hooked by you knees, the blood rushing to you head, now upside down. Are they throwing tomahawks at you? And when you put make-up on, do you feel like the clown, and wonder how your life became a circus? Now think: has real life become as terrifying as that sometimes death-defying circus? Or did you figure out that it’s always just an elaborate show, and for some reason you always knew how to play your part, how to avoid the animal claws and teeth; how to catch that bar, how to not slip and fall. So think back. Have you figured it out yet?
