the Cutting Room floor poetry readings from the Palos Park Public Library feature on October 7th, 2009 open mic starting at 7:00 pm; feature at around 7:30 pm, in the Community Room Janet Kuypers was thrilled to be the feature on October 7th at the Palos Park Public Library (which hosts an open mic with feature), because Kuypers literally grew up about five blocks from this library! This 20 minute feature followed an open mic... She had some of her books available at the Palos Park Public Library for years, and her intention was tobring more donated books for the Palos Park Public Library after this library reading feature. (She also brought extra copies of her books to the library, in case anyone there was interested in picking up a copy of any of her books for themselves.) Although Kuypers has had feature book readings in book stores in the MidWest in the 1990s, this is the first time she is a scheduled feature at a library. The poetry she collected for this feature included only three older pieces - including one of a classic poems her sister filmed her reading outside near the library years ago, and one poem that she read part of in her wedding (05/07/00). Hpowever, she included a slew of new poems in this feature, spanning a vast variety of topics, including killing people during war, sexign, religion, ending a relationship, and even (because she likes to mention astronomy when she can in her shows) how we are all linked in the Universe. Upon request during a discussion with Kuypers after the show, she even read from memory a poem she wrote when she was 9 years old, “Under the Sea.” Follow the links before to see or hear poetry from this live Chicago show, or even download the chapbook!

Directions to the Palos Park Public Library: The library is located at approximately 9000 West and 123rd Street. From LaGrange Road (rte. 45, 96th Ave.) and 123rd Street, go east about six blocks and turn right on Forest Glen Boulevard (by the fire station). Follow the street for one block and the library is the first building on the right in the woods. From Harlem Avenue (7200 West), go west on 127th Street. The road will curve and turn into 123rd Street. Continue to follow it for approximately two miles to 9000 West at Forest Glen Boulevard (by the fire station). Turn lefty and follow the street for one block and the library is the first building on the right in the woods. When taking the Metra Train South & West from Chicago, the Metra train (Zone E) stops on 123rd street in Palos Park at 82nd Ave., which is 6 to 8 blocks away from the library (since Forest Glenn Boulevard intersects 123rd Street just past 88th Ave.).
