“Twitter Verse Periodic Table Poetry” was conceived of after it was suggested to Chicago poet Janet Kuypers (now living in Austin) to enter a contest for writing a Twitter-length Periodic Table poem (because she previously wrote a poem for every element in the Periodic Table, The Periodic Table of Poetry) After she was the 3rd place winner of the C&EN (Chemical and Engineering News magazine) Periodic Poetry contest in 2019, he continued to write Twitter-length poems for every element (now that they all are named), and made a point to add images to reflect the poems and share throughout social media on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Tumblr. This volume contains all of the poems (also in a larger typeface for easier reading), plus all of the accompanying images for the poems.

The Beryllium image was taken at the beach in San Jose, puerto Rico, 12/15/03 (to highlight the bright green of the foliage, the intense blue of the ocean, and the light blue of the sky). The “Boron nitride stretching” image was taken from a video of a ring of multi-colored Christmas lights in a clear cylinder randomly moving. The “Carbon Copy” image a photo of Kuypers taken in 1990, superimposed over a photo of hers from 1988 of model magazine images as a background. The “Carbon Based Life Forms” image is a collage of images of Mother Theresa, factory-farmed and caged chickens, the Pope with priests, and Adolf Hitler. The “Nitrogen Needs” image is a Lori in Michigan, photographed laying along the beach along Lake Michigan in 1988. The “Nitrogen with an icy heart” image is a NASA/JHUAPL/SwRI false color image from NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft of Pluto, with the clearly visible glacier shaped like a heart on its landscape, directly opposite Pluto’s moon Charon at the top left. The “Oxygen Save Me” image was taken by John Yotko of Kuypers snorkeling in the Pacific at the Galapagos in late December 2007 toward a sleeping white-tipped shark at the bottom of the ocean. The “Oxygen Feeds” image was a photo Kuypers took 7/28/18 of cows in a Wahlburg, Texas field that was literally on fire (and a fire truck was trying to move the cows to stop the fire).
