Chicago Calling at
the Café in Chicago
live in Chicago October 4th 2011 (10/4/11)
of interactive Chicago poetry/performance artists
with people outside the greater Chicago area

Janet Kuypers did a set of poetry at the Café in Chicago, on October 4th 2011 (10/4/11), which was a part of the 6th annual month-long set of performances for Chicago Calling. Other poets and musicians also performed in this evening, and we also vive video of the entire evening of performances.

Kuypers read (primarily) poems from her book Contents Under Pressure (which is now in it’s 2nd printing) for later release as part of audio CD releases of her book, and had all of the poems flow into one another (instead of stopping for applause between each short poem), so she made a point to have the themes of the poem flow into one another. She hoped this would mean she could perform more, and people could get a better feel of the music from the HA!man of South Africa as well (swince the performances were about interactive work with Chicago nad people from outside of Chicago).

Burn Through Me (3 CD set)     The first pieces poems of her’s in this show were accompanied by music from the HA!man of South Africa (where they previously released the 3 CD set Burn Though Me), but all of the music from this show (as well as the video footage of he HA!man of South Africa played the cello during the show) were filmed in the Avalon branch of the Chicago Public Library 10/08/10.

Fusion     However, she also read pieces of poetry that had been performed in the past with other musicians from around the country. One track she used was from the back Bastard Trio (based in Madison, Wisconsin); she performed “Why Do You” (which she even received a compliment on from an audience menber after the show), which also appears on her Bastard Trio.JoAnne Po!wers Trio/Paul Baker 4 CD set Fusion.

the Things They Did to You     Also, because of the years she has done a number of poetry/music pieces with the DMJ Art Connection (Based outside of Nashville Tennessee), she decided to perform a piece with music from David Michael Jackson, off their latest 2 CD release The Things they Did to You, and interject in water references in the poem “Down the Drain” more than Lake Michigan (like the original piece states), but also the Oranbge River in South Africa, the Wolf River in Tennessee and the Cuyahoga Roiver in Ohio (to give credence to where other musicians form this show lived).

pointless orchestra     Kuypers also had 2 pieces with music from Pointless Orchestra (Kent, Ohio)... This first one, “Japanese Television𔕹, can be found at Napster or amazon (though both original tracks from Pointless Orchestra and Janet Kuypers can be found through Janet Kuypers dot com or scars dot tv), but check out the final piece, “Woman’s Very Existence”.
