Last year Kuypers had a bonus week Beach Poets feature right after the overturning of Roe v. Wade with Dobbs v. Jackson. In the past year, after legislation passed in Bible-belt states to make abortions illegal or nearly illegal to a third of all women in the United States, Chicago poet Janet Kuypers researched and wrote a large number of poems on the subject — and CyberWit.net press just released (this spring during women’s history month) a book of hers, with over half of the book on the subject.

Janet Kuypers’ book “Testament” is in 4 parts, with the largest first part of the book on women’s rights poetry post-Roe v. Wade overturning; the 2nd part is about life and death issues and losing loved ones and mental health issues; part 3 is poetry reflective of the first book of the Old Testament (Genesis), and the last part contains 3 poems reflecting of the last book of the New Testament (Revelations) in The Holy Bible. Janet Kuypers will read select poems from part one of this new book — and books will be available there to purchase (that you can purchase through her without Amazon’s shipping and handling charges).

Because feature Janet Kuypers has to leave THE NEXT DAY, and because she also hosts a monthly literary/music open mic titled “Poetic License” on the first Sunday of every month (starting at 3:30 PM CST via a Zoom meeting), she may do her feature either at the beginning of the open mic or in the middle of the open mic, so she can make sure she is also able to host her monthly open mic.
