You see, the Jan./Feb. 2015 issue of cc&d magazine, v253, is titled “the Curve of Arctic Air,” and the image on the covers is from an insanely snowy road with poles along the road, and I didn’t know WHICH way the image looked better. See from the attached images of covers and cover spreads (front cover images have lines denoting a half inch from the edges of the covers, and all of the images of cover spreads have additional lines for bleed for printing as well as lines to define where the spine appears). On some covers the poles are on the back cover, and the other way has the poles on the front cover.
I WOULD LIKE YOUR OPINION as to which looks better. (In theory, I could release both so people can choose which they want, but if everyone likes one versus the other I’ll only release the photo one way.) So I would really like to know your thoughts, so you can help me decide which would be a better cover for the first ISSN#/ISBN# cc&d release for 2015!

Here’s an early shout-out for excellent 2015 get-together: stock up your 2015 with cool poetry features - like the TENTATIVE Jeff Helgeson feature - and go to open mic readings at the Café Gallery January 21st 2015! I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it to this event (which means, sniff sniff, no video recording for this event - so this night is your ONLY CHANCE to see this great performance night), but Bob Rashkow is hosting with the GUEST HOST Dave Decic! I’m so sad I’ll be missing out on this event, but I hope EVERYONE can make it!

Quality’s not as good, but what the Hell, it’s displayed on a 2"x3" phone screen (so it can’t be that bad), and I was able to crop a little and for ease of use, this is a LOT easier. (Yeah! The Luddite finally added a video to Vine!) 20141203

Janet Kuypers Glad you like. That cover pic is actually a photo of a gate in St. petersburg Russia; it seemed like a good cover for a title like Beyond the Gates... 20141203

So, without even owning a smart phone I am starting my twitter.com/JKPoetryVine account (which is ONLY designed for 6 second poetry video uploads to the Vine app, which is only for mobile devices), and I have been editing video to upload to YouTube, so that it links to twitter.com/JKPoetryVine. Now that I have created my first Vine video, I *still* cannot get the YouTube video up to Vine. Using an inactive smart phone for uploading, I think I have discovered that the only way to get videos to Vine is to film anything WITH your smart phone. And yes, another instructional video shows me that if I create any video with the phone, then link the phone to my hard drive, then find it’s temp contents and use that temp name for the already completed YouTube video on my hard drive (so apparently there is not point in YouTube for this, hmph) and MOVE that YouTube video (now with a name changed to the temp name of the Vine video I just made for reference) to the vine temp videos folder. THEN I should be able to go to the Vine app and use the *filmed* video I just made (which has been replaced with the YouTube video).
That is, if I could even get this excuse for a no-phone connection smart phone with Internet access to even be acknowledged on my Mac hard drive, the Windows laptop, of the Linux hard drive here.
I thought computers and apps were supposed to make life easier, and I have how many hoops to jump through to get anything accomplished?

Janet Kuypers C Ra, Is Prose an app page or a facebook page? (I try to be as much of a Luddite as I
can and not use apps, even though I am borrowing a dead phone to use vine for uploading 6 second poetry vines today). When I looked at the prose link it looked like a page, and that I could just drop in prose to it. What is the prose link you gave me about?

The maps Lorelei used on the Thanksgiving table were excellent, but getting branches to add on the table and in a ring above the table with birds flying to LOCATIONS of people at the table was truly amazing.
|
Janet Kuypers Lorelei (sister) too so much time to do this... Collected branches for the ring above and stripe below, she bought mini nests and mini pine cones, someone donated the big maps on the table to her, but she printed pages of maps of area close to where we all lived for making the birds - she even constructed the brown ring to hang from the ceiling out of PVC tube and a hula hoop to make an oval that she painted brown to match the branches. I think most people took birds with maps printed of the area near their home. It was really stunning, and we were trying to figure out how to photograph it all. 201341129

Though not all of the videos from my radio interview and reading at WZRD Radio 88.3 FM are finished (by the way, thank you SO MUCH Cathleen for allowing me the opportunity to share poetry with Chicago on the radio, and talk about my Partial Nudity book release!), I *did* at least release a free PDF file chapbook today of the 6 second poems I read during the radio show interview. (Those readings may later be put into 6 second vine videos, I’ll keep you posted on my poetry vine start-up.) But in the meantime, enjoy the 6 Second Poems chapbook of what I read on WZRD Radio 9/27/14!

I am so thrilled I got to perform the MFV song What we Need in Life with the poem Fantastic Car Crash to a FILLED theater Sunday evening for Beast Women Rising! Thank you to Jilly Kewl and to Michelle for hosting this GREAT one night only event, and thanks to John for playing great guitar too! I am honored to have been chosen as a Beast Woman, and the ENTIRE performance was OUTSTANDING! Thank you to everyone who performed, and thank you to everyone who attended, making this such a phenomenal evening!

Had a great time last night watching the Beast Women show, & I hope (especially because it starts EARLY today!) that there’s even a LARGER turnout at The Den Theatre for BEAST WOMEN RISING tonight (7pm), where I am performing a song intermixed with a little poetry (as a poet and poetry open mic host, I can’t just sing a song, can I?)... But this is my first theater performance EVER, and it would mean the WORLD to me to see you there!!!

Host Elizabeth Marino just posted an event listing for her Chicago Calling performance event at Cup & Spoon Coffeehouse (for Thursday October 9th 2014, 10/9/14 from 6-9PM, 2415 West North Avenue Chicago) and I am thrilled to have a 20 minute show there! This will be my FINAL installment of never before read Periodic Table poems, and it will have never heard in Chicago music from the HA!Man of South Africa - and I would love it if everyone could make it for this one-of-a-kind show!

Elizabeth Marino Chicago Calling and I are pleased to include Janet as 1 of 7 features in this collaborative 9th annual event, using the work of Chicago-based artists linked to outside artists. Janet Kuypers Got 2 Chicago early for a feature across the street at a chocolate store; the host was not even there yet, so we went to the only open place right across the street, so we didn’t have many beers
there to choose from. So I picked a Miller High Life in homage to TMBG singing about it in their song “Alienation’s For The Rich”, and then we went back for the open mic and I did my feature (which went over quite well, actually). 20140913

9/11 is a day we will never forget, but I would love it if you would remember that tomorrow is my feature of Periodic Table poems at Poetry Love Letter (after 7pm at Let Them Eat Chocolate, 5306 N Damen Ave, Chicago IL 60625). My feature (the same night as an additional comedic feature from Erin Lane) will cover a fleet of new Periodic Table poems in a show called Visionaries Behind the Stars (because a lot of the elements in my 9/12/14 show of poems talk about the PEOPLE the elements are named after, and some of them ARE really visionaries in the scientific world). Hopefully I will see you there!

Check out the Ralph Monday book the Girl Next Door and Other Poems directly from the printer (as it will be available globally through amazon shortly)... Check out a copy today! I have just deduced that the show “Going Deep with David Rees” is probably a GREAT show it you are high. Each episode goes into length on different subjects like “how to tie your shoes” or “how to dig a hole” or “how to light a match” or “how to open a door.” He goes into such weird detail and makes such crazy jokes on it that I believe that if you’re stoned you’d probably think this is the funniest thing to watch.

So I’m researching one of my last THREE Periodic Table elements for a poem (Hassium), and I see ANOTHER ad for the Morrissey Autobiography compilation I have - which just reminded me that I heard on it that he did a duet with “Suzy” called “Interlude”, and since I had never heard of this, looked it up - he did a duet with Siouxsie Sioux (of Siouxsie and the Banchees) for her highest most recent hot (#47 on the U.K. charts, I believe). I listened to the song now - and they sound GREAT together!

Janet Kuypers Okay, so I just posted about the Morrissey and Siouxsie duet, so I had to look up “Morrissey Duets” online to see if any other songs came up. And THEN, lo and behold, there is a WHOLE LP, which is a riot to see...

#EndlessApps at TGI Friday? John was saying before that he wanted a mudslide from TGI Fridays, but being a vegetarian means there weren’t many food choices at any American restaurant. But if I could have endless apps for $10, that means I could have mozzarella sticks and Garlic & Basil Bruschetta and Tuscan Spinach Dip (I don’t think I want their Crispy Green Bean Fries, and I’m not sure if they put meat in their Loaded Potato Skins or their Pan-Seared Pot Stickers, but there is still a lot of choices). Don’t know when the deal ends though, and we’re busy until after Labor Day, so we’ll see.

So I walk past the living room and I see Mynx laying on her back with her legs up (at these moments I call her Matrix Mynx), and she was so cute that I walked into another room, got the camera, came back and photographed this (she never moved all that time). If you can’t tell from this picture, her back legs are sticking up in the air.

Because I wanted John Yotko to see how cute Mynx was on the bed like she was using my pillow for her head, I had to take a picture. But then she lifted her head more, and it looks less like she’s trying to rest like a person with her head on the pillow. Oh well. I tried.

Janet Kuypers 20140715
Have no idea her genealogy... Got Mynx from Suzanne Hettinger
(does she know?)... All I *do* know is that we have another cat, Zach, Zach and Mynx have the same markings, and when we got Zach (at 1 month fom a lady in an apartment in Worth), we surmised that Zach’s mom must have gotten busy with a wild Main Coon, because (A) Main Coons are one of very few cats with multiple color furs (usually cats have only 1 or 2 colors, Zach has brown, black and white), (B) their fur and skin layer is VERY pliable (it’s hard to explain that one if you don’t know cats), and (C) they often literally have an “M” marking on their forehead. Mynx comes pretty close to all three, but I cannot say her genealogy for sure.

Okay, one more notice... Hope your only plans for tonight (Monday night, 7/7/14) are to come to the Waiting 4 the Bus poetry open mic (sign ups start at 7:30, open mic starts at 8:00, because after the open mic (with guest host Bob Lawrence), stay for the Janet Kuypers / Bob Rashkow double-feature at Waiting 4 the Bus! Come to the festivities at Jaks Tap (901 W. Jackson in Chicago) because it should be extra-cool with our novel back-and-forth reading with me and the Bobster - and get ready for new Periodic Table poems too

Janet Kuypers 20140706 John explained to me that it is in a soccer match where an average player runs more that any other sport. (90+ minutes, no breaks). The second place sport for a workout (and distances run) is tennis. (I am going to go back to watching the Wimbledon finals now.)

|
Janet Kuypers 20140705 Our last stop to an outdoor bar yesterday... And John’s post saying “Somebody...” is because he just explained that on his bike ride a random play of music produced the slow Depeche Mode song “Somebody” 5 times (not a fast song to inspire a workout). He is updating his song listings on his phone before his next bike ride.

All of the short poems also have YouTube video links after the poems, and since we did a book release feature in Chicago the day the book was released (with 40+ poems - mostly haiku poems - read by assorted people to music), I am adding video links to the book so people can see more video links associated with the many poems in this collection.

Lanthanum (#57, LA), Erbium (#68, Er), Hafnium (#72, Hf), Thorium (#90, Th) and Protactinium (#91, PA) are newly completed Periodic Table poems of mine that I will introduce at our feature this Monday (July 7th 2014, 7/7/14) at Waiting 4 the Bus for the “Janet and Bobster” features! Bob Rashkow calls it “Science vs. Insanity” (which is very well may be), but I say this poetry is MONEY (even though we’re still broke if we claim to be professional poets). Still have one more Periodic Table poem to work on (Rutherfordium, #104, Rf) to make it fit into our back-and-forth readings as this first of it’s kind feature with the two hosts of the Café Gallery, doing a show together at Waiting 4 the Bus!

This bird is STILL sitting at the tree right outside the back door, chirping like mad. I am really wondering if it is mad that we moved the bird tree house from the branch just below where that bird has been sitting and squawking for hours. So the original reason this new Janet Kuypers poetry collection book was going to be called Partial Nudity was because the cover design had an edited x-ray of my past mammogram, but then it occurred to me that these writings are revealing about me too. That’s why (after 17 years since my last large new poetry book) this became a 2 volume set. And THIS book, Partial Nudity contains a ton of shorter poems written over the years (and for an added touch we put my edited jump image from my janetkuypers.com domain to make me look naked, jumping on top of my mammogram)...

Janet Kuypers is with Morrissey Official. 20140613

This “unruly girl” (who will not settle down) will be “taken in hand” to see Morrissey tonight (Friday the 13th, no less) at the Lyric Opera Building... I’ll be picking up my shirt for the concert on the way today.
|
Janet Kuypers
20140612

I thought that if I could find a Smiths or Morrissey shirt I liked, I’d create my own. (And any Smiths fan knows what the words on this shirt are from, front and back...) But cafepress won’t get it to me until after Father’s Day so I’m shooting for onehourtees, since they’re in Chicago
Janet Kuypers Actually, I’m really pleased that that wouldn’t ship fast enough and I wouldn’t have to pay a ton for next day shipping, because onehourtees.com is located IN Chicago
(on my way to my Morrissey concert, as long as we get there before 5pm), and I was able to design it with layering (and very original) fonts, plus get a couple CD covers on the back. Score! I’ll have to call them soon to confirm the order and mare my payment, but it will cost less and be cooler than the other option I had for getting a shirt for this concert. (That, and I think I’m going to wear it for my feature 6/18 at tthe Café Gallery at the Gallery Cabaret, since it says unruly girl on the front of the shirt... Seems fitting.).
|
Janet Kuypers
20140612

Then again, I really enjoyed this one too. (You see, I was looking for a vegetarian t-shirt with next-day shipping so I could have a cool shirt for the Mossissey concert tomorrow; I had no luck finding a “fish aren’t vegetables” t-shirt, but I found these instead.).

Okay. okay, I know Andy Derryberry asked for an autographed copy after I posted the covers for Partial Nudity, but it IS a part of a 2 book set (too many poems for one book). And there are mini books as PARTS of these book too (if people don’t want to order the big volumes)...

I don’t think having a 10 gallon aquarium is comparable to loving watching the fish go swim (though the tank DOES look cool); maybe swimming with white-tipped sharks in the Galapagos is comparable. Either way, this Victor Phan drawing looks SO much better than any photos of my underwater, trust me...

Janet Kuypers Seriously, that buzz that sounds like bumble bees swarming when you watch the Indy 500 on TV is DEAFENING when you watch it live. (I could have gone this year, but going in 2010 and getting to high five Jack Nicholson afterwards was enough.).

Other than it being Ted Kaczynski’s birthday (I only know that because it was mentioned on an episode of Dark Angel, not because I once posted the Unibomber Manifesto in an issue of cc&d), it is also MORRISSEY’S birthday today... So before it strikes midnight I had to post a photo of my emulating the “Everyday is like Sunday” single cover. (I am wearing a crab ring because I took it for a vegetarian article appearing in the upcoming June/cancer 21-year anniversary issue of cc&d, v249...).

Chris Stolle I think we’re all lost in your hypnotic gaze and not paying attention to the words. Or we’re focused on “nudity.”
Janet Kuypers Well, the background image on the cover is a collage from the x-ray of my mammogram. (That’s where the name came from.)
Chris Stolle I like that concept. I hope the book is a grand success!
Janet Kuypers I haven’t released a new poetry book since 2004 (that was a small book, etc. but 1997 was the last large new book release). It has been so long and I have written so much that it’s coming out in 2 volumes (300 and 400 pages), “Partial Nudity” and “Revealed”.
Chris Stolle Impressive. You have your own sort of “Leaves of Grass” going on.
Janet Kuypers Wow, a Walt Whitman reference, freaky... After I was almost killed in a car accident years ago, I wrote copy down called Changing Garments, and later found these lines in reference to a Walt Whitman long poem (though I was in a hospital, so I don’t know how I could have known that when I wrote it down). It appears with a Slovak translation in the books too.
Janet Kuypers At one point I thought that if people didn’t want to buy a large volume, maybe I should break them down thematically into many smaller books, so at the same time I will also release many mini-books on the same theme: “Twitterati” (twitter-length poems), “100 Haikus”, “When you Dream Tonight” (dreams poetry), “Give me the News” (news stories poetry and news-worthy poetry), “Rape Sexism Life and Death” (poetry about those things, plus Slovak translation of some of the poems), and other collections like “Let me See you Stripped”, “Part of my Pain”, and “Say Nothing”.

Hey there, cc&d lovers, in a effort to make the web site more iPhone / android / mobile friendly, I have been starting to redesign the frameless web site to be more thumb-friendly, i.e. we added large buttons for main features for the magazine (issues, current issue, guidelines, how to submit to the magazine link, and the free email subscription notice). The background on the main page even ROTATES between different past issues of the mag! So I hope you like the changes, as they are being made...

Since Dave Johnson was talking about bamboo on the phone with us, I thought I’d photograph the window sill right next to my chair in the den. I have bamboo plants from the 1990s thee, mixed with more recent (and wider) bamboo - and I made a point to pull the photos I had in the den of bamboo to add to this piece (photos of the Summer Palace in China of a bamboo field and a “don’t walk on the bamboo” sign), the photo of the 3 of us in the Oahu bamboo forest, bamboo from el Yunque Tropical Rain Forest, and a photo of that Oahu forest of bamboo.

I saw Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher From Star Trek: The Next Generation) do a special on Orphan Black right before season 2 started on BBC America, and I thought, I thought that show was a cool idea, but I never watched it. So in 1 week I watched the entire 1st season, and am hooked. So like zombies, John and I watch Orphan Black now (where every episode is like a movie). With the main character played the role of every clone, I wonder if I am more like Sarah (the brunette) or Helena (the blonde).

Under the Sea (photo book) is a fun book of images of many animals around the globe. The poem in the book is about all sorts of aquatic animals, and it’s an entertaining read... In an online event to fight bullying, I donate the poem walking home from school.
once when I was little
I was walking home from school
filled with fear, like I always was
the other kids made fun of me
they called me names
sometimes they threw rocks at me
once they pushed me to the ground
went home, bleeding knees and tears
but once, I’ll never forget, Patti
from 121st street was
walking behind me and threw
her gym shoes at me
they landed right next to me
as I was walking down
that first big hill
I don’t know if I stopped
but I remember for a brief moment
looking up at the tall tree branches
next to the road
all the entangled dead branches
and I thought
that all I had to do
was pick up her shoes
and throw them
as hard as I could
and she would never
get her shoes back
I looked at the trees
for only a moment
and I continued walking
as fast as I could
as I always did
and suddenly the shoes
were long behind me
and the others were laughing
I look back now
and wonder why I didn’t
do it
was I scared of them
was I scared of myself
I still keep asking myself that

I posted a number of additional haikus last night to Twitter while watching tennis finals last night (and they didn’t post to facebook). Here they are:
“evil”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
like cream in coffee,
evil explodes into a
mushroom cloud and spreads
———
“oil”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
flowers on the water
broke the oil seeping up from
the submarine grave
———
“John’s Mind”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
human beings are
the only creatures with thought
that’s why we have gods
———
“eventually”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
man-made parallel
lines eventually cross:
nothing’s truly straight
———
“cage”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
this pain in my chest
pounding, heaving, throbbing, it’s
my heart, in a cage
———
“knowing”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
fallen to my knees,
I can feel my chest cave in
knowing it’s my time
———
“census”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
I want to work for
the U. S. Census Bureau,
and count the bodies
———
“gone”
(Janet Kuypers haiku 3/1/14)
when the love is gone
I’ve searched for it, and wondered:
where does the love go?

Chemistry, Poetry and a Brat... It’s a long haul for Chicagoans, but because chemist friends in Kenosha are up for a poetry get-together in Wisconsin, Janet Kuypers set up a meeting for the Periodic Table and Poetry at The Brat Stop (at 12304 75th Street in Kenosha). If you’re up for cheaper gas prices, cheaper beer and Brats at The Brat Stop, come by Sunday 2/23 at noon - we should be seated not at the bar, but on the first floor closer to the stage. (If they have something going on that is too noisy, we can go to a private room just off the bar.) Who knows - if everyone is up for it, others can read poetry there too (don’t know how long the chemists are staying, but it’s a totally open get-together). There are a very select few new Periodic Table
poems that could be read (like the brand-new Thallium, or the bonus Periodic Table poems Dilithium and Tritium), but requests will take over this reading - it’s a totally open-ended format for a Periodic Table poetry reading, and we would LOVE to see you there!

Just heard the chemists think it’s a 1pm start time versus noon, so through we may be there early, the start-up time for this get-together has technically changed to 1pm. (I think 1pm was the original start time anyway.) Bug me if you want to meet up early...

After watching Comedy Central shows recently, I want to make mock-ups of childhood memories, like the Pope birth control Pez dispenser (thank to The Colbert Report) or the Morrissey ‘N Say, thanks to a winning tweet from @midnight (if only I get get Morrisey’s voice over animals like the cow or the chicken, making a moral statement for vegetarianism. What a riot.)

Congrats to Janet Kuypers... Maybe someone in Russia, or India is listening right now. Sometimes it seems the things we have done at Artvilla since 1998 don’t matter, but the efforts Andy Derryberry and others made with you and me to put music to your recordings are honest. We tried long before anyone else to put music to poetry. The free and unselfish giving by others to Artvilla shows. I thank you.

I would usually drink champagne for a tennis finals match. Not in the middle of the night though... (Wonder if I will be able to fall back asleep after this match!)
Janet Kuypers Wawrinks just broke the Nadal serve in set 4! Will it hold? 20140126
Janet Kuypers No, Nadal breaks back. (Let us not kid ourselves, this would not be easy.) 20140126
Janet Kuypers Holey cow. I am not going to tell people how this match goes (in case they want to avoid the news and watch a replay of this most bizarre match). This was worth waking up after 3.5 hours of sleep for - what a match! 20140126

After the back stop from Nadal, Stan (albeit angry) is back with a vengeance. Nadal is in pain from back injury... What will happen?
Janet Kuypers This was the weirdest thing. Nadal serves and is playing like he is in a huge load of pain, and when he failed at a shot, NO ONE applauded for Wawrinka. (Granted, Wawrinka is 1 game from winning set 2.) 20140126
Janet Kuypers Now Stan’s 1 set from winning. 20140126
Janet Kuypers As the 3rd set started with a Nadal serve, it looked like Wawrinka was playing “nice”, like he was feeling bad for Nadal’s pain. (I know this sounds like it sucks to say, but no competitor should EVER do that.) Because of this, set 3 starts with Nadal Breaking Wawrinka. (I think the pain medication and back run for Nadal helped him, but the crowd is still rooting for the health of Rafa Nadal.) 20140126
Janet Kuypers Wawrinka has 13 unforced errors in 3rd set, and Nadal is playing well(ish) again. And Nadal is starting to do the things he normally does in his (psychotic) routine (having gel to eat at certain times, blah blah blah), so I wonder if Wawrinka can catch up. This is really turning out to be a nail-biting match. 20140126
Janet Kuypers Nadal wins set 3.
You know when Wawrinka won every time before, you would see Stan point at his temple, which makes me think it is his mind that helps him win. I just wish that right now Stan would get his MIND back, so that he can get back to pushing Nadal so he can pull of the 3rd set.
Let’s see how the 4th set goes... 20140126
|
Janet Kuypers
20140126

It’s approaching 8PM in Melbourne (3AM in Chicago); Wawrinka won the toss and served first and is playing well. (As is Rafa Nadal, duh...) We’ll see as it approaches the end of the 1st set.
Janet Kuypers
20140126
Wawrinka has lost only one point on every service game. I was expecting this to be more one-sided, but this is turning out well.
Janet Kuypers
20140126
After watching Nadal’s pre-serving routine (pick his butt, shoulder, shoulder, left ear, nose, right ear, nose, then serve) Wawrinka manage to break Rafa Nadal and win the first set (with the first time he ever won a set over Raphael Nadal). Now it’s time for set two...

Janet Kuypers updated her profile picture. 20140123

Changed my profile picture for the next few days to a tennis theme, because the Australian Open has been going on - and the finals are this weekend. I know Federer and Nadal are set to play today, but it will probably be at 3A.M. (but I’m positive they’ll play it over ad over again on TV Friday so I can see it). I’m sure it will be a GREAT match!

We like the dark replicas of many postcards that appear on the covers of the Mike Brennan chapbook Postcards from Exile (because we displayed them in black so it is harder to read the postcard writing)... But still, we could ALSO release it with the cover in it’s original off white... So Scars Publications hopes everyone likes BOTH covers in the new 2014 Mike Brennan chapbook Postcards from Exile (which are free to download any time on line)...

Okay, okay, someone was saying on TV while we were on break that you can’t split an M&M, but I do it all the time - I usually don’t eat M&Ms, but those dark chocolate mint one, I just love them, and I bite it in half and eat it one half at a time (to savor it longer)... And John, it’s “Planck length” not walking the Plank length (and by the way, a Planck length is 1.61619926 x 10-35 meters, but there I go, being all science-y again)...

Hey, they said they changed their alerts from RED (emergency driving only) to ORANGE (essential driving only). Well, I would say it’s essential that I get out of this town, but I don’t think that’s physically possible... But I DO think it’s essential I get out of this hotel room for a bit.

Made it as far as Indianapolis because of the horrific weather. This is out our hotel window.
A state of emergency has been declared in our town right now... We were watching TV for all of the churches and schools that were closed; the breakfast room in our hotel had a bunch of truck drivers who’s trucks wouldn’t even start this morning. John checked, and our car DOES start (time to remove ice) - they recommend no driving, but, well, we have places to go...
Roads are closed throughout Indiana and Illinois right now; we physically cannot drive west or north. (Truckers are stuck here and locals who have lost power are here, all other hotels are booked.) John is getting out room here for another day. It looks like there’s no human way for us to even leave here until tomorrow. (Welcome to two weeks into winter.).

Math guru John Yotko’s new word: “Diangular.” (He explained this word to me two days ago.) He told me it is three connected lines, but one line is infinitely long. (I told him that if the infinitely long line is connected, then it has an ending point; if it is infinitely long and is connected to two other lines, then the other two lines are also infinitely long. I don’t think he liked my saying that.)
Addendum: This morning he explained to me that he never told me that the infinitely long line had to be straight. (I guess that explanation makes him the math guru.).
