I have read for the Poetry Bomb (held on the last Sunday afternoon in April, starting at 3:30 pm CST) in different locations since 2010 (this 5-year-old post highlighted my 1st Poetry Bomb reading)... I shared this last year for last year’s “2024 Poetry Bomb” at the (then-closed) Circle Brewing Company grain tower... Since the folks at Prost Alehouse last year said it was cool for me to do this at Prost this year, if I have no other location ideas, I might read poetry from recent CyberWit books they’ve published of mine for this year’s Poetry Bomb at Prost in Pflugerville. (I’m open to suggestions near Austin for new places for poetry readings for the Poetry Bomb.)

I edited this poem into “Against My Will (2022)”, and this half-Lithuanian could get it’s translation as “Prieš Mano valią” so that both versions of this poem would appear in the CyberWit 2022 book “Shattering the Glass Ceiling”.

After seeing this post from 3 years ago today of YouTube video from my 1st poetry feature in Hot spring, AR, “Behind the Mask” on 3/23/22, I just realized that my final poem in this feature, “Knowingly Live, Purposely Live” from the book “Every Event of the Year (Volume Two: July-December)”, is PERFECT for the final poem I’ll have the honor to perform in my mini-feature at the Tablerock Poetry Festival 4/26/25 (the last Saturday in April), during the first half of the noon-6:00 PM event for the benefit for repairs to Salado’s Tablerock Theater (Entry by Donation). I can commiserate with this post from 1 year ago today because THIS year’s “harvest” of potatoes in a Jay’s potato chip bag tipped over from it’s own weight weeks ago and is this potato plant (which WILL grow potatoes) is nestled among a pineapple plant *which won’t grow any pineapples), a spider plant (not for growing spiders) and bamboo in my office.

McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, KFC, & Jimmy Dean stopped their vegan offerings. White Castle is in Illinois (not TX), Panda Express only has a select few locations reinstating their vegan meals, Native Foods has only 1 location in the South Loop now, Austin’s Plow Burger is now only through Uber Eats, & Austin restaurants like Mother’s Cafe, Beer Plant, Citizen, & Counter Culture closed. (So there̵s a lot of vegan cred on my 2/22/25 poster.)

We haven’t retouched the pergola stain since we installed it 8 years ago (and you can tell it’s just worn wood and not that shocking orange-red), but in the past few years we’ve grown Mustang grapes on our pergola, so it’s covered with vines now (and yes, they’re starting to bloom this spring already). We collected Mustang grapes from this mini “vineyard” to mix with the Merlot we started this spring, but the Mustang batch went bad (so this year, we just bottled & kegged our “Blood Moon Merlot”). I plan to pick Mustang grapes from our “harvest” this year to generate the Mustand Merlot for the next season (& the label’s done).

I planned to use my horse photo with John’s blood moon and Milky Way photos, but when the Mustang grapes died, I pulled the horse from the (now) “Blood Moon Merlot”. For the (future) Mustang Merlot, I used John’s Milky Way photo & moon photo that’s on the cover of the 4/1/25 cc&d book released today, “Touching the Moon”, and combined it with my horse photo & my solar eclipse photography. I love this label, and now I can’t wait until the Mustang Merlot is made next season.

Facebook didn’t remember this 2016 post of mine, but it’s a good thing I did... because I just watched the (rain delay) Miami Open final last night with Djokovic (going for his 100th tournament win) against a 19-year-old (whom Djokovic trained with), Jakub Menšík from Czechia. How weird that 9 years ago today, I posted that Djokovic was beating Tomáš Berdych from Czechia in the 2016 Miami Open (because Novak will have to wait to win match 100).

I was so excited after my 63 (actually almost 65) mile bike ride fore the Rosedale School today to take Janet to Mission Burger for a new place to go. we discovered it was the same place so Janet suggested a different mission burger and this place is so much cooler and it even has a neon bike up in honor of my bike ride today. I have to thank my new found riding friend, Dave, who gave me someone to talk to during the ride. It was a good way to spend 4 1/2 hours.

I didn’t realize that when we put the Blood Moon Merlot into a keg, that it wouldn’t go into the keezer since red wines are not served cold — we’re going to have to find a better way to be able to store this keg. Good thing it didn’t all fit into a keg, because I was insistent on making a few bottles of this Blood Moon Merlot too, and I really like how the bottles look too.

Saving otherwise unused wood scraps for furniture sounds like something to only do when COVID-19 quarantined us all (like it did 5 years ago today). However, I still like the furniture we made then — even this case for an otherwise ugly mini fridge from a garage sale now looks cool in our home.

Since this wrap is for a beer fridge, I put a black styrofoam strip along the inside top for caps of beer bottles from around the world too. After wearing my “Big Fun” Heathers t-shirt last night because it’s Mardi Gras weekend (that shirt was from my favorite Halloween costume in New Orleans one year), I spent yesterday, and this morning roasting spent grains from the now fermenting proto gothinator. After roasting and now grinding it all, since I’m stocked up on the stuff, I can now use it to add protein and fiber and gothiness to all my future meals.

C Ra McGuirt gave me a wrestling belt and inaugurated me as a Tag Team Poet; we did a Tag Team Reading on 5/18/13, and at one point he wanted to do a book with me (which is why we took a Tag Team photo). We never produced that book (may he rest in peace), but that pic’s the impetus for me to set up a similarly-styled (with a nod to Warhol) cover image with that belt for my next CyberWit book on protest and fighting back, which I hope to release in 2026. After this Chicagoan moved to Texas, I saw firsthand the oppression that led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which stopped abortions in some states but also stunted women’s right TO children through IVF clinics, & drug restrictions for people with auto-immune illnesses. I wrote the book “Testament” with over the first half about women’s rights post Dobbs v. Jaskson, and at one of my readings at The Gallery Cabaret I shared my long poem “Surprised at What You Might Find, and I think the Chicagoans there weren’t appropriately attuned to the risks these laws are to everyone. (I *really* thank the positive feedback after I read this poem at the “Poetic License 2/2/25 Global Open Mic,” that really meant the world to me, thank you), but it made me wonder if Chicagoans don’t get the trouble this country is potentially in (just because some laws are on your side here, not all of them are — and these laws you’re cushioned from the violation of here hurt other Americans a LOT more). So when I saw this post from David Buddha-Hargarten, it gave me comfort that we’re not alone in this struggle. It’ll be a long road, but we’re not alone. Thank you.

It is accomplished! After years of saving boxes from fast food restaurants of vegetarian products that they no longer sell or labels from vegetarian restaurants that are no longer in business (okay, and paying reverence to some vegetarian places that still exist today), I had so much material paying homage to vegan and vegetarian products on top of my fridge that by Christmas time, I had to take it all down and put it into one large poster. The poster was assembled in January and has been sitting in my office on my Reader box for the past few months. Just today (thank you John) we managed to give that poster its proper place in our kitchen.

This was first shared in 2011 (back when my 1st Chicago open mic that I hosted was at the Café in the blue room with the giant fish on the wall and didn’t have the name “the Café Gallery”, and I was so new to YouTube that I couldn’t even post videos long enough to share my entire open mic, so I only recorded intros), but this was worth sharing again 7 years ago today (before the Café shut down and the Lincoln Ave. building was destroyed). In this YouTube of the intro to the Café on 2/8/11 I read poetry from the lit mags I edit — poetry from different artists in the v217 cc&d and v091 Down in the Dirt, plus my poems “Other Horizons”, “the Mind of John” and “two “Not Mute” Haikus” from the book “Dark Matter: the Mind of Janet Kuypers” (which, btw, I kept that dark matter pic as the background image for my video editing laptop).

Now living in Austin, I don’t get a chance to enjoy my favorite beer from the oldest micro brewery in Illinois — Gudenteit, from Mickey Finn’s. Being trapped at home after the cold front hit Austin yesterday, I dlooked in my fridge to see if I had any beer I wanted to drink. I looked in the back of the mini fridge and saw one can of this Gudenteit beer from last summer when I visited Chicago. I thought there was no way that just one brewery pour into 1 old can would still be good, so I had to try it, and man, it was delicious.

I swear that it’s becoming like a hothouse inside my office (which happens to be the hottest room in this house because it’s right above the garage and all the heat rises to here) but it’s the only place to keep my plants safe from the wrath of my cats. Seeing this post from 1 year ago today reminds me that I *saved* that pot of dirt and Jay’s potato chip bag for future potato-growing, and I *think* I saved a potato that we didn’t eat, waiting for eyes to grow. I had it growing in the office before (which I’ll have to do again since our little kitties Titan and Callisto, which are getting bigger and bigger every day, would attack that dirt and plant, I’m sure it), so let me look for that “potato chop pot” and potatoes and see if I can grow potatoes in my potato chip bag again. (P.S.: It’s 30° out, which seems the perfect time to start growing potatoes in a Jay’s potato chip bag in my office.)

John and I have had champagne every day on Valentine’s Day weekend this weekend. Friday night we had champagne in our wedding classes and our 10th-anniversary wedding glasses. Last night we drank champagne in the wedding glasses my parents gave us. I thought it was appropriate that tonight we finished the champagne with the beautiful glasses that he found when we were traveling to Finland... But the glasses don’t matter because I am with the man I love. I love you John, and I always will.

As I am sitting in my office this morning, I look out the window and see a flower truck stop in front of my house. As I got to the front door he gave me beautifully arranged roses, and then a separate bouquet of tulips, which so caught me by surprise. John give me roses five days after we met and tulips shortly thereafter, when he knew I was dutch — not on Valentine’s Day, so this was such a pleasant surprise. Thank you so much, and I love you. (I had to place them both in the office behind closed doors because I had to keep the cats away from poisonous tulips, and Titan was on his heels, trying to reach up for the tulips before I got them away...)

Back in 2011, Scars Publications released a 1995 chapbook (that was later released online in 2006 with a different cover) that was turned into the ISBN# book “Prepare Her For This” (with cover art honoring the no-longer-available original chapbook cover, in my first Logan Square apartment). In 2011 I talked of wanting to make this an audio CD, but 9 years ago today I re-shared this book release (where I’m wearing a woman’s symbol necklace pendant that I *still* wear), and I am glad that if the original chapbook is not out there, this book is, so people around the globe can pick it up on Amazon.
