Janet Kuypers is with John Yotko and 19 others. 20211231

I don’t know what your plans are for ringing in the New Year tonight, but I know the perfect way to cap the first weekend of 2022! Let’s ring in the new year together with poetry on the first Sunday of the month— come to the Zoom meeting and ring in the new year with the “Poetic License virtual open mic 1/2/22” — the Austin, Texas ‘Recycled Reads’ G to PG-13-rated pre-pandemic open mic that is now GLOBAL through the Zoom meeting — if you don’t have the address, you can find it on the Facebook event page. John F. McMullen (host of the Zoom meeting) usually starts the Zoom meeting as early as 3:00 PM CST, and I (host Janet Kuypers) am usually there ~10-15 minutes before the open mic starts. So get your creative juices flowing, because I’d like to ring in the new year poetically with EVERYONE at the 1st Poetic License open mic of 2022! Join us at the “Poetic License virtual open mic 1/2/22” Zoom meeting on Sunday, 1/2/22, 3:30-5:30 PM CST!

Janet Kuypers is with Louise Gail Richardson. 20211231

I keep seeing these friendversary posts with Louise since I have moved to Austin and one thing I should stress is that I should give a big THANK YOU for the opportunity to host a once every month open mic (I know you were moving and wanted to lighten the load when living in multiple homes, but I thank you anyway). I get to share everyone's poetry, because of you. Thanks.

Thanks for making a point to “like” this YouTube video of Janet Kuypers reading her poetry from 3 books to close her “Poetic License virtual open mic 12/5/21” (filmed from a Panasonic Lumix 2500 camera) on its “Poetry Super Highway” post on Christmas - this positive feedback helps us keep poetry readings like this alive this way, even when this YouTube video had 168 posts on YouTube on Christmas Day (yes, that’s right, 168 views on Christmas day) before YouTube decided to eliminate all but 4 of the views. So thank you for the positive feedback here that YouTube can’t remove — for this is how we can see the Scrooge-like spirit of a corporate giant in action...

Facebook keeps showing me animations of my memories over the years, as they did on 9/15, 9/27, 9/30, 10/18, 11/5, 11/8, 11/19, 11/25, and 12/15. And they’re still posting these reminders to me, and even though these images are completely different from their last installment, it is cool to see John and I celebrating Halloween at the now -closed Opal Divine’s at Parmer and I35 in Austin, Thom and I during his birthday celebration, John and me at a reason booth at a street fair in Georgetown as well as at a Vegan restaurant, and (yay) let us not forget my favorite costume in NOLA 6 years ago as the barbie doll from Heathers hanging from a noose used as a death threat in the movie (and we just watched Heathers two days ago because the street at John’s school was given the same name as the high school name from this movie)...

We might be getting vaccinated and some of us may be getting our lives (a little more) back to normal, but having everything delivered to us seems the new norm. I hope everyone feels joy when you’re with the ones you love - and know that you are loved! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season, and a spectacular new year!

The street John’s high school was on in Kane never had a name. Yesterday he found out that they named the street in front of his high school Westerburg. Westerberg, which totally made him think of the movie Heathers, so today we had to watch the movie Heathers before going to bed.

Janet Kuypers Bring Back Chief Illiniwek 20211222

My Illiniwek nutcracker is finally accomplished... Thank you to all who helped with images so I could pull this off. I thought it was hard to sculpt one feather to make a crown for a Chief Illiniwek nutcracker, but you don’t know how tough it is using white nail polish to color the nose and cheek stripes and red and blue thin permanent markers to add stripes to the faces (including the 1"-wide face of the nutcracker standing on the main nutcracker’s hand). I even used white hair from another nutcracker to make a red and black “feather” headdress for the mini-nutcracker too. But yay! It’s done, and actually before Christmas!

Janet Kuypers Bring Back Chief Illiniwek 20211220

This was once a site that talked about Chief Illiniwek, and I posted interest in creating a nutcracker for him. It is cool to have a miniature Illiniwek in the hand of the big Illiniwek nutcracker, but making the feather headdress has been a year-long struggle. Splitting one feature down its spine and hand-coloring it to match the style is the only idea I could come up with to make it work, and having one feather spine bend around the crown of the head is tough. Gluing it in place now. But other than painting the stripes on my nutcracker's face to match, this is as close to done as I think this nutcracker is going to get...

Janet Kuypers, via Instagram and Tumblr. 20211210

Since a writer last year screwed me out of money for 3 books (and I could have had a Steinbach Lincoln nutcracker from him too if they didn’t screw me over), I got a different Lincoln nutcracker. Unlike Steinbach’s mine holds no Emancipation Proclamation, so I printed papers with a genuine copy of it for him (the Gettysburg address is on the other side). While I was at it, I had a nutcracker with birch legs, and every time I see him I imitate him saying, "Get off my yard! I’m just trying to grab me my paper." So while printing Lincoln’s papers, I thought I’d roll a printout of The Daily Illini newspaper for my birch nutcracker to hold too. #janetkuypers #janetkuyperschristmas

Enjoy the Janet Kuypers 11/30/21 poem “Rutherfordium, blinked out of existence”, a Twitter-length Periodic Table poem for the element #104, Rutherfordium (Rf):
The U.S. & Soviets battled in transfermium wars,
even to name periodic table elements. For 104,
the U.S. said, Ernest Rutherford & nuclear science;
Soviets said, Igor Kurchatov & Russian nukes.
It’s ironic they fought to win, by discovering
what quickly blinked out of existence.

Thanks for making a point to “like” this YouTube video of Janet Kuypers reading poetry from the cc&d v315 book “Down and Inside” and the Down in the Dirt v189 book “A Door Is A Door Is A Door” during the “Poetic License virtual open mic 11/7/21” (from a Panasonic Lumix 2500 camera) on its Facebook page as well as on its “Poets House (Library and Literary Center, New York, NY)”, “Poets of Merit & Expression” post, and for making a point to “like” & “love” this on its “Contemporary Poets, Their Works, Current Poetry Projects, News, Links” post too. Getting this positive feedback really reinforces our efforts for keeping poetry readings like this alive this way, especially when this YouTube video already has 64 views on YouTube after less than a day, though I’m sure YouTube will delete most of those views soon (as they very often do with my videos). So thanks for the likes here on Facebook that they won’t take away... You’re the best!

We’re obsessed with having everything
(and taking it with us wherever we want),
and I wasn’t there back in the day to get
“technology” like this, but it’s cool that
back in ‘79, Sony made the first portable
cassette player, the Sony Walkman, all
made from Samarium cobalt magnets.

Facebook keeps showing me animations of my memories, as they did on 9/15, and 9/27, 9/30, 10/18, and even 11/5 and 11/8. And they’re still posting these reminders to me, but I appreciate that all of the pictures in this set are of me and John (which is fitting, since he’s my best friend, I love him, and we’re always together)...

States of matter: I know we’ve mastered

the Bose-Einstein condensate:
cool atoms to near absolute 0

every atom acts the same
Cool Rubidium w/ lasers (bye-bye energy)
