I’m glad you “liked” & “loved” this 30-day now deleted Facebook live video stream — & “liked” & commented nicely on this Facebook live video stream of Janet Kuypers reading her poem “Big Shoulders: This Was Her Home” that talks about Carl Sandburg, in front of Carl Sandburg’s home in Chicago on 8/23/25, because it is in the book “The Universe is in Your Hands” that she gave (with her book “Testament”) to the mini library in front of Carl Sandburg’s home before her reading (filmed and the original streamed from a Samsung S24 camera) on Facebook — getting all of your positive feedback here inspires us to keep our Chicago poetry reading videos alive online this way. Apparently it was cold enough in New Orleans 8 years ago today that I had to wear a turtleneck under my costume... it just occurred to me that it might get too cold in New Orleans this weekend that my deep v-neck shirt with a brooch might be too cold, and wearing a black turtleneck under my costume will completely conceal the v-neck look (and I have no flesh-colored turtlenecks). I might have a light flesh-toned shirt I could wear under my costume if it gets too cold... I’ll have to research this before leaving.

Thank you for snapping this photo and sharing it 9 years ago today, when we were both moved away from Chicago (but lucky you, you got to move back). Also, thank you for your perfect description of this lit mag editor’s macabre space — my skeleton is in an egg chair now; I might have to photograph it to share for this year’s Halloween “macabre” installment. It’s a shame I didn’t get the chance to see your open mic at The Gallery Cabaret when I was in town, but I’m glad we crossed paths before we had to leave again... You’re the best.

I wanted to share this post from two years ago today, because, since Circle Brewing Company had recently closed then, we brought some of their beer to NOLA. It’s a shame we have none left — and it’s a shame we couldn’t get the doppel blur recipe from Jud, because I would have loved to have made some for him when he visits Austin in December.

Two years ago, I was the Solar System, and omg, in this pic from 2 years ago today, John (partially dressed in his Galileo costume, who historically discovered so much in the solar system) looks like he’s eating Titan. Since then,e we named our boy cat Titan (the cutie we just want to metaphorically eat up).
|
A year after I wore that NOLA Heathers costume, I dressed as the tulpa of Diane from season 3 of Twin Peaks, and since I’m paying homage to David Lynch with my costume this year, I thought, since I have the clothes, I can wear this for the brewery meeting tomorrow night.

This costume I wore 9 years ago today (that I also shared 4 years ago today) is what I wore when I met up with brewers Friday night, but that noose was too heavy to wear the night through (someone then complained that it was a slipknot and not a noose knot, but I didn’t want to literally hang myself with my costume, so this would have to do). I’m meeting brewers tomorrow before NOLA, but I’m not wearing this costume again...https://www.facebook.com/janetkuypers/posts/10225178052132402 |

Enjoy the Janet Kuypers book “Testament” from CyberWit. In 4 parts, part 1 (and over half the book) is pro-women’s-rights post-Roe v. Wade overturning poems. Part 2 deals with the touchy subject of suicide, closing with parts 3 and 4, which reflect the 1st book of the Old Testament & the last book in the New Testament — & is available on Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/dp/939522486X/ http://www.janetkuypers.com/Testament/ |

I dressed in my Heathers costume when we went out & met people Friday, and I told them that I’d dress that way for the brewing contest meeting in Round Rock Wednesday. Since then, I changed my mind (this post I shared 8 years ago today is another reminder for me)... I decided to pay more homage to David Lynch instead and go as the tulpa of Diane. (I have the wig, bracelets, and clothes, but I’m not bothering with the nail polish, since I’ll have to remove those colors the next day to be Laura Palmer in the waiting Room Thursday in NOLA).

Back in the day (before I ran “The Café Gallery” Chicago poetry open mic, after just getting on Facebook, and while I was still new to editing and uploading YouTube videos) is when I shared earlier poetry — from earlier collection books. This video still caught my eye that I shared 9 years ago today (because shares from 10/27/09 are lost) when I read my poem “At Least That’s What I Hear” to a live audience. Although this poem is in the Scars Publications book “Rape, Sexism Life & Death”, it *first* appeared in the cc&d books “finally, literature for the snotty and elite (part one)” & “A Wake-Up Call From Tradition”.

When I wasn’t the one in trouble, it was fun going to the police station at 4:30am after closing an after-hours Chicago bar — and I wrote about it in the poem “Precinct Fourteen”, which I read on 10/24/12 in this YouTube video at “The Café Gallery” that I shared both on 10/26/12 and 10/26/16... This poem appeared in the Scars Publications books “Close Cover Before Striking”, “Rising to the Surface”, “It All Comes Down”, “Chapter 38 v2”, “A Wake-Up Call From Tradition”, “finally, literature for the snotty and elite (v1)”, “The One Thing the Government Still Has No Control Over”, “Janet Kuypers: Enriched”, & “She’s an Open Book”, but it also is in the hardcoer and paperback books for “S&M” (from the Oeuvre writing in the out-of-print book “Slate & Marrow”).

Seeing this memory from 7 years ago today makes me wonder if I still have those contacts so I could have blue eyes for my Laura Palmer costume this weekend in New Orleans, though if we had contact lens liquid for those temporary eye contacts, I don’t think anyone could see the *slight hint* of blue if I wore them, because that is all you see when I put those blue temporaries over my dark brown eyes.A few months after John & I returned from NOLA for Halloween, I speculated that maybe I could go as Laura Palmer in 2025, though I didn’t put much thought into it since I went as her once before, literally wrapped in plastic with Chad to a ΠΚΦ Halloween party (his costume was so easy when he was Dale Cooper, in a suit and filling his coffee mug with beer all night saying, “That’s a damn good cup of coffee”). Shortly after I thought of it, going as her as she was in the waiting room/red room (and not wrapped in plastic), David Lynch passed away (RIP, David). When I heard he died, I thought, I *have* to go as her now, in homage. I have the wig and clothes, and will work on replicating the gold brooch with pearls and green gemstones she wears later today. |

I found this Twin Peaks image that said “It’s Happening Again” (for season 3, 25 years later), and I thought I’d print it to wrap around my cup for absinthe while walking around next weekend, but I thought I’d add a few words to it for my costume this year.

This is just another friendly reminder to all of my “Poetic License” open mic attendees: “Poetic License” is usually the 1st Sunday of every month., but because Halloween weekend is the same weekend as the 1st Sunday this November (and out-of-town travel make the open mic not possible on Sunday, 2 Nov 2025), *this* month’s “Poetic License” is on the SECOND Sunday, November 9th, 2025 (or 20251109, or 20241109, or 9 Nov 2025). So, have a great October, enjoy the Halloween weekend, and we’ll see you on the 2nd Sunday in November for our monthly “Poetic License” this year!

This is a reminder notice notice to cc&d readers and contributors to the 11/26 issue of cc&d. Issues are usually released on the 1st of the month... except this next issue/book of cc&d. Because we will be away from our offices on Saturday, 11/1/25, and Sunday, 11/2/25, we cannot release the cc&d issue/book on 1/1/25, so the 11/25 issue/book of cc&d will be released on Monday, 11/3/25. Hold tight for just a few days before you can enjoy the next issue/book of cc&d, & thanks!

Janet Kuypers’ poetry, some also read by Oz Hardwick, share poetry with both an American and an English tone (and supporting music) on the 3-CD set “Across the Pond”. Download tracks from “Across the Pond” on iTunes!https://music.apple.com/us/album/across-pond-poetry-both-blues/573703694?ign-mpt=uo%3D4 |
Thank you to Oz Hardwick, Jared Smith, Monica Fowler and everyone else who made this “Across the Pond” CD release a reality — including John on guitar too! This post from 12 years ago today pleases me that people can get together for poetry, globally, so I’m glad this CD now has a home on iTunes.https://music.apple.com/us/album/across-pond-poetry-both-blues/573703694?ign-mpt=uo%3D4 |
I’m glad so many “like” & “love” & comment nicely about this YouTube video of Janet Kuypers reading her from the CyberWit book “The Universe is in Your Hands” & the Scars Publications books “Shattered Facades” & “Alone with the Stars” to close her “Poetic License 4/6/25 Global Open Mic” (from video that was filmed from a Panasonic Lumix 2500 camera) on its “TRENDING POETS” page, “like” & “love” this on its “Fallen Angel Poetry” page, & “like” this on its “GAS: Poetry, Art & Music”, Instagram, “My Voice, Your Words—Poetry In Action.”, “Poetry Super Highway”, “Poets of Merit & Expression”, “Poets On Fire Worldwide”, Scars Publications Facebook page, & YouTube pages too — your positive feedback here inspires to keep our “Poetic License” book reading videos alive online this way. That “.tv” in the Scars Publications web domain means they’re not just about books. The Janet Kuypers 11/20/11 show “hmmm” was also released as a 4-CD set “hmmm” of live readings from Janet Kuypers from 2010 and 2011 at the Café (the 3rd and final CD collection for this location at the Café for this open mic, with bonus readings at other Chicago venues). Find different recordings from Janet Kuypers & order “hmmm” on Amazon!https://www.amazon.com/Hmmm-Poetry-Show.../dp/B009YARUPA |
Reading poetry is one thing, so is performing it in a feature show (like my 11/20/11 show “hmmm” at the Café, which is still my highest-paying feature to this date), but it is another thing altogether when that poetry show becomes a CD release too. 12 years ago today, I just released the 4-CD set on Amazon, with the last recording from the Café open mic.https://www.amazon.com/Hmmm-Poetry-Show.../dp/B009YARUPA |

I’m glad so many “liked”, “loved”, “cared” for, & commented so nicely on this 30-day now deleted Facebook live video stream — & “liked” this Facebook video stream of Janet Kuypers’ WZRD hour-long interview & poetry reading on 88.3 FM Chicago radio on 8/23/25 (filmed and the original streamed from a Samsung S24 camera) on Facebook — getting all of your positive feedback here really does inspire us to keep our Chicago interviews and radio features — and poetry reading videos — alive online for everyone to enjoy.
